The Enemy @ Borderline London

The venue was intimate and ideal for The Enemy as they gear up for their upcoming tour dates and summer festivals. Coventry took over Borderline in London for one night only, and they did it in style! The weather outside might have been damp and wet, but inside the venue it was hot and exciting as the support band took to the stage.

Back in December, Tom Clarke had promised to offer support slots to up and coming unsigned bands and proving he is a man that keeps his word, the support slot went to The Kontours - a young Coventry band who have been going for a couple of years and have already built themselves a glowing reputation. With confidence in their songs, Ollie, Kiera and Jack took to the stage and quickly won over the London crowd with their stage presence. The Kontours even performed a new song, proving they have nerves of steel and determination to make good music. Let's hope they get spotted and signed up soon .......

The venue was sold out with The Enemy apparently selling their Borderline tickets in record time and the crowd were up for a good night. The Enemy and the crowd lived up to expectations, making sure security never had a dull moment as the gig kicked into action. As the lads ripped through Aggro and Had Enough, the energy was too much for the power system and Liam Watts had to fill the gap with a drum solo until power was restored. Tom, Andy and Liam wasted no time in tearing it up as they banged out Away From Here and Gimme The Sign - to the delight of the crowd.

Tom's white Fila top might need dry cleaning after the gig as everything gets lager stained during The Enemy gig but how can you stop hundreds of people jumping up and down to This Song and No Time For Tears? The band setlist included another four new tracks -  Saturday, This Is Real, Bigger Cages and 1-2-3-4 Ready To Go. Familiar favourites were not forgotten and Tom took great delight in handing the singing over to the audience during We'll Live And Die In These Towns and You're Not Alone.

Keyboard player, Tom Boddy was not forgotten and Tom dedicated Be Somebody to him - asking the crowd to change the words to Be Tom Boddy. From the fast paced songs to the slowed down Happy Birthday Jane, The Enemy proved once again why they are a must-see live band. They deliver the goods again and again, something which is evident in the faces of the audience and also beaming from the faces of Tom, Andy and Liam. My camera wasn't allowed into the venue, but I'm glad I had the night off to just enjoy singing along and watching the band perform. It reminded me of why I go to the gigs - there is nothing like watching live music.

The Enemy are back on top of their game and with the new album just weeks away from release, any gig featuring The Enemy will be worthy of attendance. The new sounds blend in perfectly with the anthems from the first album and the best of the second album. UK festivals had better watch out because The Enemy are in town!

VIDEO: The Enemy Coventry S7ven Live Gig

Here are all 14 videos from The Enemy gig at S7ven nightclub in Coventry, recorded on Thursday 16th February 2012.

The Enemy returned to Coventry with a bang - a gig fans would never forget! Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins, Liam Watts and Tom Boddy did what The Enemy do best ..... they played great tunes that fans love.

S7ven nightclub  was crammed full and the atmosphere was electric as The Enemy took to the stage. There were no barriers, no heavy handed security - this was a date with The Enemy and their fans. No-one left disappointed because The Enemy know how to deliver on what they do best.

Fans from around the world tuned in for the live stream of the event, hosted on the official website www.theenemy.com and other websites. The following videos were recorded by robmacca - the aim was to try and capture the excitement within the crowds. Even when everyone is jumping up and down, singing along and enjoying every moment, the videos show just how lively The Enemy performances are. While the sound/picture quality of the videos do not do The Enemy justice, hopefully you will get a flavour of what the upcoming tour and festivals will be like.

Happy New Year

Another year over and what a year it's been for The Enemy, Coventry's finest export since The Specials. They started the year with some secret pub gigs around the country, returning to small upfront and personal performances - and all of them were for free, as a thank you to fans.
Then the Coventry trio embarked on a massive UK tour with their new single 'No Time For Tears', becoming their fastest selling to date and featuring the stunning backing vocals of Emma Skipp. The press went into overload as they reviewed the much anticipated second album, 'Music For The People'. It entered the UK charts at #2, just 7,000 copies behind the legendary Bob Dylan.

Advert for 'Music For The People'

The Enemy continued to have a busy 2009 with various festivals back in Japan and Europe along with T4 on the Beach, iTunes and the BBC Big Weekend. Tom, Liam and Andy spent the summer touring with Oasis and all the rock 'n' roll headlines that followed. Tom Clarke and Tom Boddy then travelled across America in a Jaguar for the Gumball Rally.

Two more singles from 'Music For The People' were released - 'Sing When You're In Love', with a video featuring lots of scooters and a 60's vibe. 'Be Somebody' featured on Fifa 10 in a new kind of marketing to promote The Enemy. The lads then finally began their first break in three years as Tom Clarke got busy down on his farm, Liam relaxing more at home in Coventry and Andy living life to the full as always.

Yet 2010 will by no means see the end of The Enemy, having performed for the Hogmany celebrations in Edinburgh for New Year, the lads have much more ahead of them. The third album will hopefully see a return to the tunes we all love - gritty lyrics about everyday life. The music industry can be a fickle business, but if The Enemy stay focused they will continue to entertain their fans.

The Enemy Play Acoustic Session For The Sun

The Enemy performed an acoustic set for The Sun newspaper and here is the story and link for the session:

LONG before THE ENEMY’s TOM CLARKE was battling BOB DYLAN in the charts, he showed the same drive selling tellies and working on the tools as a gardener.
Now the rocker has urged Britain’s youth to get off their games consoles and knuckle down to achieve their dreams.

Tom & Co will be supporting OASIS this summer, but hope to take over as our No1 band before long.

They visited Bizarre HQ for an exclusive Sun Session playing a three-song set of We’ll Live And Die In These Towns, Sing When You’re In Love and No Time For Tears.

Listen to Enemy's exclusive Bizarre session:
HERE

Tom, drummer LIAM WATTS and bassist ANDY HOPKINS then popped into the studio next door for a chat with me and Gaunty on SunTalk.

Listen to The Enemy on SunTalk by clicking on the button below.
SunTalk On Air Now click here to listen

Tom told us: “I’ve always wanted to work hard at everything in every job I’ve had.

“I used to do gardening in the summer and sell washing machines and tellies in the Co-op.

“And I wanted to be the best at selling washing machines and tellies.

“If you’re going to do a job, you’ve got to give it your best. You get out what you put into life.

“When you’re given an opportunity and you want it, then work your a*** off for it.”

Even though The Enemy are set to play with the GALLAGHERS in front of 90,000 people at Wembley, their determination means they won’t be truly happy until they are headlining there themselves.

Tom said: “I don’t think NOEL needs to do it any more. He’s doing it for the love of it. That’s the dream.

“That’s when you can say you’ve made it.”

The first time I saw The Enemy, they’d headed down from Coventry to London on the Megabus for a quid.

This time they had just jetted back from LA where they were driving a Jag in the Gumball Rally.

But despite their rise and a No1 debut album Tom says the band’s feet are firmly on the ground.

He added: “Our biggest achievement isn’t in platinum discs, awards or album sales — it’s that we can sit down at the end of the day and have a drink as mates.”

They even took the news that Bob Dylan had pipped them to No1 spot in the album chart early this month with good humour.

Tom said: “I was disappointed for about two minutes then it occurred to me it was Bob.

“You have worse days than coming second to him.”

The Enemy Video Banned From Music Channels

The Enemy's new single 'No Time For Tears' has been 'banned' from music channels like 4Music and VH1 on shows like 'The Official UK Top 40'. The programme refused to show the video claiming it was "not suitable for the whole family".

The video shows band members Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts performing their track inside a glass box, while onlookers throw items and attack the screens with paint. The video concept was directed by Rankin & Chris Cottam who encased the band in a box, where they have to face waves of well hard, good old British hate – plus the odd moment of adulation.A thoughtful concept to reflect the song’s stoic, ‘take it like a man’ theme of which music channels have missed the point and decided to 'ban' The Enemy's video from some of their programmes.

Watch the video and judge for yourself - Should it have been banned or not?

The Enemy 'No Time For Tears' Sales Figures

The Enemy entered the UK singles chart at #16 with 'No Time For Tears', the first single from the much anticipated album 'Music For The People'.
'No Time For Tears' sold 12,606 copies. Singles have increased in sales by 33.56% year on year as people download individual album tracks and may have had an effect on the final chart position for The Enemy.

We can all be proud of the amount of copies sold - based on last year, those sales figures would have meant The Enemy scored another Top 10 hit.

Calvin Harris (#1) sold 62,012, Eminem (#8) sold 26,166, and Patti LuPone (#45) sold 4,987 by way of comparison.

The Enemy No Time For Tears Lyrics

Here are the lyrics for The Enemy's 'No Time For Tears' and the video:

The morning after the revolution
PC 1525 tells me there’s no real solution.
Bruised ribs and a ripped up jacket, money all in the road.
Some man with a big fat mouth screaming while I’m on my way home!

We’re gonna get out the city, we’re gonna get out the way, we’re gonna cash in the kitty, we’re gonna get on a plane.

We’re gonna get out the city, we’re gonna get out the way, we’re gonna cash in the kitty, we’re gonna get on a plane.

There’s no time for tears when ya live in the real world.
There’s no time for tears when ya live in the real world.

Gettin back to an empty flat, head thumping even more,
screwed up wrappers from a take away dinner scattered all over the floor.
This isn’t glamorous, it’s not rock n roll, this is England on a Saturday night, this is a nation’s soul!
