The Enemy Tour Hits The High Notes

The Enemy began their UK in the seaside town of Weston Super Mare on Friday 28th September 2012, with support from Dexters and The Antics. Songs from the new album 'Streets In The Sky' featured prominently during the packed gig.

Fans have been full of praise as The Enemy returned for their first full headline tour since November 2009. Nick Golledge said, "Great set last night, every song a belter. Whole crowd were right into the new songs. Good luck for the rest of the tour hope it's as mental as it was down the front last night." While Ashley Lapham wrote, "awesome set last night boys, smashed it. Guitars sounded top notch and I was surprised that the pier turned out to be a decent venue!"

Over on Twitter, Kev Coath said the Weston Super Mare performance was the best gig he have been to. Meanwhile Haydn Lewis ‏summed up his feelings by saying The Enemy "smashed it at Weston on Friday." In a review of the gig Rhys Buchanan described it as "punchy, aggressive and manic ..... Tom certainly knows how to stoke a crowd." It seems that The Enemy hit all the right notes with fans and the rest of the tour looks like being a winning formula for fans around the country.

The Enemy Streets In The Sky Tour Setlist

It's been a busy summer for The Enemy with several festivals (including T In The Park and V), a roof top Wembley Stadium FA Cup Final performance and a house move for Tom Clarke just ahead of the UK 'Streets In The Sky' Tour.

The tour kicks off at The Pier in the seaside town Weston-Super-Mare this Friday (September 28th) and will be touring the UK throughout October (tickets available from Ticketmaster and See Tickets) including two Midland dates at Leamington Spa on October 4th and Birmingham on October 26th. Tom Clarke and Andy Hopkins revealed the longest tour setlist so far to fans this week, with seven tracks from the new album 'Streets In The Sky'. Firm favourites also feature on the setlist, with 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' and 'This Song' included.

Tom Clarke has spent this week in his new house after selling the farm, returning from the wilderness into a more normal surrounding. This didn't stop him popping along to Coventry's Godiva In The Square music festival on Sunday, as he showed his support for local music and also gave his mates from Dexters a lift up from London. The rain might have soaked those in attendance but it was good to know real guitar music is still alive and well in the UK.

Meanwhile Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts (top picture) have been keeping themselves busy before the tour begins - the pair have been getting the studio room project started and hopefully the tracks for the fourth album will be practiced in there over the coming months. The Enemy want to be able to help unsigned bands and the studio room could offer opportunities for up and coming bands. Midland band  The Antics will be supporting The Enemy throughout the 'Streets In The Sky' tour.

The Enemy To Offer Free Download

Fans of The Enemy will be checking out the Coventry bands Facebook page with anticipation over the coming days after the lads promised they would give fans a free download once the page hits 100,000 'likes'.  The page has so far racked up an impressive 98,260 likes and the band want to top the 100,000 mark over the coming days.

The Enemy have treated fans with two free downloads over the past year with 'Gimme The Sign' ahead of the 'Streets In The Sky' album launch  and 'This Is Real', an early version of the song that later became a track on the album with the words changed to include the album title in the lyrics.

Once the Facebook page reached 100,000 then The Enemy will be offering all fans the chance to download something special from their page. Tom, Andy and Liam are also putting on a free gig at London's Hyde Park on Thursday 9th August 2012, taking to the stage at 9pm (performance changed from advertised 10pm). They told fans, "Team GB are smashing it this week, third in the Olympics leaderboard, and to show our support we're playing a free gig with for BT London Live. You can watch some of the days action on the big screen, then catch live tracks from us lot." For more details on the free gig, head over to the BT London Live website.

The Enemy will be performing at V and Belsonic festival later this month and then they will be touring the UK, full details on the links below.

Liam Watts Talks About The State Of UK Charts

While Liam Watts makes plenty of noise on the drums in The Enemy, he is often perceived as the quite one. Just check out his Twitter page and you may struggle to keep up with his tweets, but Becca Longmire from entertainmentwise.com managed to pin Liam down for this interview.......

Indie-rockers The Enemy are known for their honest opinions and their lack of love for the charts at the minute, however Entertainmentwise wanted to hear it from the guys themselves, so we caught up with drummer Liam Watts to talk pop, charts and T4 on the Beach.

The band released their current album 'Streets In The Sky' back in May (May 21) and charted at a respectable number nine the following Sunday. However, in a world surrounded by talent shows and pop music, is it hard for indie bands to make a name for themselves nowadays?

Liam told us: "Talent shows seem to be the future and I don't see how indie bands can overcome that. They're completely taking over the charts!"

He then went on to say, when asked about whether or not free downloads are constructive when it comes to bands like themselves: "I do think that free downloads help but we as a band did it more for the fans, as a thank you."

However, this begs the question - why would you surround yourselves with pop acts at T4 on the Beach, which took place recently on July 1...

"We played T4 on the Beach and it was a bit of a contrast, but we played T4 3 years ago as well. I think it's so hard to get TV exposure nowadays that you just have to do it, you have to take every opportunity", Liam went on.

"People seemed to like it and we were one of the only bands that didn't play with some form of backing track or CD."

Ooo, sly little dig noted...we have to say, we're pretty impressed that this is a band that haven't attempted to change even though they are still riding pretty high in the mainstream charts.

Liam added, "We'll never change, but of course bands mature", referring to the bands ever-growing style.

VIDEO: The Enemy - T In The Park (Full Set From BBC)

It took a bit of time and lots of pressure from the band and fans for the BBC to finally get the complete set of The Enemy from the electric T In The Park performance.

Tom Clarke described it saying, "it's by far my favourite 50 minutes of my life so far". He went on to praise fans for sticking up for the band and the BBC for getting the gig online.

Within an hour The Enemy's performance had become the 5th most shared act from T In The Park.

PRESS: The Enemy On Rocket Fuel

The Scottish Sun continued it's coverage of T In The Park as it reviewed the festival. When it got to The Enemy, they wrote:

"Yes, yes, yes — Coventry boys The Enemy, fronted by Tom Clarke, put in a classic T In The Park shift.
They had the King Tut’s Tent so packed it had to be shut, and for good reason — they were playing like they were on rocket fuel.
They also had foul-mouthed backstage rants, got on the booze, swaggered around — and were just general geezers.

It’s what T is all about.
