Press: The Enemy on Oasis Tour

Here is what The Shields Gazette said about The Enemy in it's review of the Oasis gig in Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

"Coventry trio The Enemy were next on the bill, and their lad-rock was a perfect appetiser for Oasis's beer-swilling audience.

Frontman Tom Clarke might be a little fella, but he has a big personality, and he got the crowd going with a 10-song set including Had Enough, Away From Here, the excellent We'll Live And Die In These Towns and storming closer You're Not Alone."

The Enemy At Heaton Park Supporting Oasis

The Enemy were performing as support for Oasis during their massive UK Tour and 70,000 fans were in Manchester to witness the first music event of it's kind seen at Heaton Park. Twisted Wheel and Kasabian completed the line-up that, according to Liam Gallagner would be "better than Knebworth."

Saturday's spectacular more than made up for the problems seen on the opening night and Tom Clarke had recovered from food poisoning. The Enemy set list incorporated more tracks from the new album, opening with 'Elephant Song' and closing surprisingly with 'Happy Birthday Jane'. The crowds were very receptive and 'Away From Here' (watch the video below) and 'Had Enough' got the crowds dancing along. New album tracks 'No Time For Tears' and 'Sing When You're In Love' were received well and fans were treated to '51st State'.

The Enemy performing 'Away From Here'

The Enemy warmed the crowd up nicely for Kasabian - who really got the crowds joining in. Everyone had their hands in the air clapping and singing along to their catchy tunes. By the time Oasis came on the job had been completed as 70,000 fans enjoyed Oasis at their best. Manchester welcomed Liam and Noel home with open arms and Oasis responded by putting on a worthy performance. Classis were integrated with newer material and banter between songs was humorous. Thankfully the rain held off and a good night was had by all..................

Oasis Deny Feud With The Enemy

There have been many press stories about a so called 'feud' between The Enemy's Tom Clarke and Oasis Liam Gallagher, I try and steer away from such stories as in this instance. The press had taken comments made on a radio show, twisted them to make a story and the rest is history.

Today the matter was laid to rest, writing on his 'Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere' blog today, Noel Gallagher said: "The Enemy have pulled out of tonight's show. Tom's got food poisoning. Shame. Was looking forward to seeing them for the 1st time."

"While I'm on the subject of The Enemy. There's been an attempt by the NME to try and start some juvenile, pathetic feud between the bands in the run up to these gigs."

"Can I assure everyone that there is not and never will be anything between the working classes and its heroes."

Case closed!

The Enemy Cancel Oasis Gig

The Enemy have been forced to cancel tonight's gig with Oasis, here is the full story as reported on Clashmusic.com by Robin Murray:

Indie giants The Enemy have been forced to pull out of the opening night of the eagerly anticipated tour by Oasis.

Oasis have really gone to town on their upcoming tour. Containing some enormous venues and an all star cast, the dates are some of the band's biggest in a decade causing numerous comparisons with the era-defining shows at Knebworth.

Coming along for the ride are some of Britain's biggest acts. Kasabian are due to perform, alongside Twisted Wheel, Reverend & The Makers and many more. However by far the most controversial additions were The Enemy.

The Coventry band released their new album 'Music For The People' earlier this year. Being halted in its charge towards the number one slot by Bob Dylan, it saw The Enemy follow their celebrated debut album in fine style.

In a recent interview Tom Clarke spoke about the tour, claiming that he wanted to become as successful as Noel Gallagher. However Oasis singer Liam Gallagher took exception to some of Clarke's comments, and in a Twitter bulletin blasted the frontman.

Tom Clarke was forced to explain his comments, apologising for any offence caused. However it seems that the band's bad luck on the tour is set to continue with The Enemy being forced to pull out of the jaunt's opening night.

In a new statement the band admit that Tom Clarke is suffering from chronic food poisoning and is in no shape to complete the show.

Bassist Andy Hopkins apologised to fans, saying "Tom has contracted chronic food poisoning. He will be back for Saturday’s show as we all will as a band. We’re absolutely gutted about this and it will make us more determined to blow people’s heads off on Saturday. I’ll be having it down the front with all the Oasis fans this evening."

The opening night of the tour is in Manchester's Heaton Park. An enormous hometown show for the group, Oasis have drafted in Jon McClure's outspoken outfit Reverend & The Makers as a replacement for The Enemy.

Even though McClure claimed to have split the band last year, Reverend & The Makers are due to release their second album 'A French Kiss In The Chaos' this summer. Riding a euphoric groove, the new record re-establishes the band as one of the most vital indie groups in the UK.

The Enemy are scheduled to play the rest of the tour as expected.

The new Oasis UK tour is due to open tonight (June 4th) in Manchester's Heaton Park.

Poll: Music For The People - The Results

The votes have been counted and verified in the 'Music For The People' Poll to determine the fans favourite songs from The Enemy album. The results produced a clear favourite with 'Be Somebody' taking a massive 30.8% of the votes and looks like it could be a future hit for the Coventry trio.

The runner-up place was contested between the next single 'Sing When You're In Love' and the 'Elephant Song' yet both songs proved inseparable with 22 votes each (12.8%).

The debut single from The Enemy's new album was 'No Time For Tears' earning almost 10% of fans vote as it became the highest selling first week single when it was released earlier this year.

Another neck -and - neck battle between 'Don't Break The Red Tape' and 'Last Goodbye' saw these two distinctly different songs finish with exactly the same number of votes (30 between them). '51st State' was the only other fan choice that polled double digit votes with 12 (6.9%).

The Pulp sounding 'Nation of Checkout Girls' has had a mixed reception and this was reflected in the voting with just 4% choosing it as a favourite, slightly ahead of 'Silver Spoon' which had 3.5% and the very mellow 'Keep Losing' finishing last with just 3 votes (1.7%)

Favourite Song From Music For The People Poll Results:

Elephant Song 22 (12.8%)

No Time For Tears 17 (9.9%)

51st State 12 (6.9%)

Sing When You're In Love 22 (12.8%)

Last Goodbye 15 (8.7%)

Nation Of Checkout Girls 7 (4%)
