Fans of The Enemy will be pleased to hear that they will be returning to their roots by filming the brand new video in their hometown Coventry on Thursday 16th February 2012. Tickets for the special event sold out in seconds as fans snapped up tickets when the venue was announced. Lucky ticket holders will be the first to hear tracks from the forthcoming album, including the new track 'Gimmie The Sign'. The Enemy will be giving the single away for free to fans (check out The Enemy facebook page for more details)

Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts are putting on an intimate performance as a thank you for the loyal support fans have shown over the years. Tom said, "It's the first chance we've had to play the new stuff off the third forthcoming album, which we are all very excited about playing! The club is S7VEN, those of you who are Coventry natives will know that that's John Dawkins' night, and we think it's only right to film the first video there, just like we filmed our first ever video round the corner in The Hope And Anchor."

The Coventry trio are making a return with their keenly anticipated third album, which promises to be a crowd pleaser - just like their 2007 number one selling debut album, 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns'. The limited edition '40 Days And 40 Nights' and 'It's Not OK' were both filmed in Coventry and the band hope to recreate the raw vibe emanating from their early material. Now on Cooking Vinyl records, The Enemy have been free from the demands a larger record company often put on artists. This will mean the third album will be the sound The Enemy have created for their fans.

The video will be filmed at the intimate S7VEN nightclub on Thursday 16th February 2012 with fans becoming stars of the show. The band will be following that up with a single release and a selection of live shows in Coventry, London, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow and Brighton. The Enemy spoke about performing in Coventry saying, "We are trying to make Coventry show something very special that links up with a special date in the towns history but need to raise a bunch of cash to make this happen!"

Interview: Tom Clarke Speaks About Hopes For 2012

Here is the very candid interview with The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke, speaking about the new album, life in Coventry and lessons he has learnt in life. Tom spoke to Fergal Kinney for Louder Than War, and is reproduced below. Please visit Louder Than War for a host of other interviews and media news.

A political band in apolitical musical times The Enemy took their fire and anger of the Jam and the Clash and married it with the band of their generation Oasis. In 2007, They were on top of the British music scene. A number one album, 3 top twenty singles, big venues sold out nightly up and down the country. By their own admission, after this point something went off the boil. Somewhere between the never ending soundchecks and the long haul flights, something in the Enemy was lost. Now, in 2012, The Enemy’s Tom Clarke speaks to Louder Than War about how they’ve reclaimed the original spark and have the British Music Charts next in their sights.........

So Tom, what your the agenda for the Enemy in 2012?

We intend to release our third album, play UK festivals and tour the UK. For now it’s all about getting the album finished on time. We want to release in March or April but there’s a lot still to be done. We’re also planning a special gig in the midlands too but I can’t say too much about that until it’s all confirmed. We’re working around the clock, harder than ever, to get the album sounding great, and the fans and press enthused.

In many ways your debut was of a very similar vein to 'Definitely Maybe' yet your second album jumped straight into 'Be Here Now' territory, what kind of sound are we to expect from album number three?

Album three has a sonic presence that is uncompromised. There’s echos of the first and second album in there. The songs are undeniable, catchy and instant, the sound is full on, guitar driven and to the point. It sounds like The Enemy always should of. Pop sense of the first album, sonic weight of the second. We genuinely believe it’s our best work yet and we know the implications of saying so. We wouldn’t dare say that unless we truly believed it.

How has recording with Joby J Ford from The Bronx impacted the record?

Working with Joby has been an eye opener. There are techniques for recording bands over in the states that are common place, that over in the UK producers and engineers simply don’t apply. Watching Joby work is an experience. He has a wall of guitars and we try every one to find the right sound, a plethora of amps, a multitude of different sounding rooms and a lot, and I mean a lot, of experience.

What has been influencing you with the writing of the new album?

Many years ago we wrote an album [We'll Live & Die In These Towns] which to us made perfect sense. We wrote about the dark cloud hanging above us all. The working class, and particularly the north of England and Scotland knew exactly what we were on about. The middle class and the Hoxton elite in London are only just starting to be affected by what was already tearing the heart out of working class towns all over the rest of the UK. The third album, touches on lots of things, but without being too political. I don’t think Enemy fans really want to get too political. It touches on the Coke culture that is plaguing our youth, it stabs fun a what in Coventry we affectionately refer to as “shit geezers”, “parrot heads” or "try hards". It touches on some bleak moments that every class of person will of experienced in these incredibly testing times. It’s got old school Enemy jest in there too, and anger, and spite, and all the things that made The Enemy great.

You’ve been quite vocal lately about the absence of guitar music in the UK and it is clear that there is a distinct lack of guitar music in the charts, particularly when compared to the boom of 2004-2007. What do you think is the cause of this and how do you think it can be helped? Which bands at the moment do you rate and do you find it reassuring that guitar groups such as the Courteeners and the Vaccines can still gain great success?

I think it is superb to see the Courteeners and the Vaccines going strong. Liam Fray was incredibly vocal about slagging me and my band off when he first came out. I assume it’s because by being at the top of the charts and all over the press and TV we were an easy target. Personally, I no longer view bands as targets. I think all real music, whether guitar driven or not has to come together to destroy the monopoly that the manufactured Cowell trowell dumps on our charts. The British Singles Chart belongs to the British Music Fan. NOT to Simon Cowell. It’s high time that all fans of all bands unite and make themselves heard.

With record sales at an all time low yet live music still experiencing something of a boom, how do you feel this will impact the future of the Enemy? For a band that broke Blur’s record of selling out consecutive nights at London Astoria, do you feel confident that the people will be on your side?

The Enemy has always been a live band. However this time I think we might of made a record to match. Everybody that’s seen us live knows the score. People who have heard us on record but not seen us live still have that experience to look forward to. This time though, the third album does the love show justice. It sounds amazing, the songs are sing along catchy anthems and the spirit of the band is captured. We are more excited about 2012 than we have ever been. We just want to spread that excitement and get the public ready for a superb album, and release it, and tour everywhere to say thanks to all The Enemy fans, and all the genuine music fans for their support.

Do you regret taking the length of time out that you did after the second album and his it shown you what could have been done differently between the first and second albums?

I do regret it. But we needed it. We were exhausted. We needed some space from each other and from the circus. It’s going to be tough to get back in. We wont just waltz into radio and be received with open arms. We have to make a special record, and that’s what we’re doing. Then we have to graft our balls off to make sure everybody knows about it.

You were quite young when you had success with your debut album, when did you first get into playing guitar and gigging?

The thing a lot of people forget is we are still one of the youngest bands out there. Everybody else is creeping closer to radio two age, we’re still trying to grow some stubble. I guess we all started around the age of 18, and we’re still learning our trade. You should never stop learning, especially from your own mistakes. The day you think you’re perfect is the day you’ve lost it. That’s my opinion anyway.

Most songwriters are influenced by where they came from, this was often the case in your work with “You're Not Alone” being written about the closure of Peugoet plant in Coventry. Does Coventry still inspire you to write today and how?

Coventry is always a massive inspiration. I grew up in Birmingham until I was 16. Coventry is much smaller and therefore all the stuff that happens is more focused. I genuinely love Cov. I really adore it.

The Enemy have always endeavoured to be a band with a political conscience and in the time between ‘Music For the People’ and now so much has happened, from the riots to the election of a Conservative led government, what worries you the most about Britain at the moment? And if there was an election tomorrow who would you vote for, and why?

What worries me most about British politics is that we don’t have any politics anymore. There is no choice. No left, no right. They’re all in bed with each other looking out for themselves, nobody cares about the common man in politics anymore. I wouldn’t vote for any of them at the moment.

When your first album shot to Number One and you gained a wider press attention, you could often be quite scathing in the press of people in other bands; what do you think of this now?

As I say, I think it’s a time to stick together. It’s much easier to slag a band off than it is to say something nice about somebody, but when musicians stick together they can achieve greatness. You only have to look at the collaborations in Dub Step and R&B to understand that. I am older and wiser and whilst I still have a fire in my belly I’ve learned to think before I speak. I will never with hold my opinion. If somebody wants to know, I’ll tell em. But there’s an art to getting your point across intelligently. I would hate to come across as unintelligent or arrogant as it is not the case. I take pride in my open mindedness and I care more about other people than anybody realises.

Quickfire Q+A (and where relevant, your reasons for)

Cameron or Clegg? Eton boy or a traitor? Neither give a shit about the common man, they can both rot.

Bitter, lager or cider? Lager. And a kebab. I hate conforming to a stereotype. dammit.

Morrissey or Marr? Tough one. Morrissey was a poet but Marr could make a guitar sing in a way I never will. Marr.

Radio 1 or Radio 2? Radio 1. I have faith that they will see the light.

Fender or Gibson? I’m all about Fender. My snot green tele is my favourite axe ever.

The Clash or the Jam? Very tough one. The Jam speak more to me though. Weller was and is a genius.

Singing or guitar? That’s like saying fish or chips.

Stage or studio? Stage.

Beady Eye or Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds? Love Beady Eye, been to see em loads. Really enjoyed it. Noel is the man when it comes to songs though and I’m a song man at heart. NGHFB album is my favourite album for a long long time.

John, Paul, George or Ringo? John was a legend. Macca drove a merc, I’m more of a Jag man.

The Enemy have returned from their recording sessions in Los Angeles (as pictured above with Coventry photographer Kevin Donnelly). With just a few more studio recording sessions to go, The Enemy are beginning to see the formation of their third album. They told fans, "We are back from LA armed with another 4 finished tracks and 2 more very nearly there, back in the studio very soon and BANG ON target for release."

Liam Watts Joins Twitter

The lads have been tweeting during their recording sessions in Los Angeles and Liam had to take a bit of stick for being the only band member not to have a Twitter account.

The Enemy Reveal Album Tracks

The Enemy are currently in LA recording tracks for the anticipated third album and Tom Clarke took time out from the studio to talk about the new tracks. Tom said, "We've hardly seen outside the studio in all the time we've been here, we've worked faster and harder than we ever have before." The band are working with The Bronx's Joby J Ford, who is helping to create the sound for the new album.

Fans will be delighted to know the Coventry trio are returning to their roots with new songs such as 'Saturday' and 'Turn It On Two' - guitar led up tempo songs written at the start of their career. Tom described them as, "simple hooky melodies over rock guitar and power drums. They remind us of tracks like 'Had Enough' and 'Be Somebody'."

New song 'This Is Real' has been available to fans from The Enemy's Facebook page, but the song has been transformed with more drum playing from Liam Watts, a violin and a Grammy Award winning Hispanic vocal trio - Tom thinks the song has a 'You're Not Alone' feel to it!

Some tracks have not been finalised yet, 'Make A Man' is still being worked on but promises to have great drums and that very British sound. The lads continue to produce songs about everyday life and '1234' will be a punk sounding track about youth culture in the UK.

If you enjoyed album tracks like 'Pressure' then you should enjoy 'Bigger Cages Longer Chains', a track that promises lots of guitar action. Another song that could be making it to the third album is 'Gimmie The Sign', Tom described it as "a step forward in the right direction, keeping the classic Enemy sentiments but with a more anthemic vibe."

The Enemy can not wait to return with the new album and a UK tour - Tom, Andy and Liam are enjoying the learning experience of working in an LA studio with the crew. The band want to get this album just right, so that fans can be proud. Tom said, "we're still young and on the cusp of discovering what you can really do with music, we're all stupidly excited about this record, we've made huge strides without forgetting where we come from and belong."

Tom Clarke Praises Fans

Tom Clarke has praised fans in his latest official blog update during The Enemy's second day in Los Angeles. He spoke about the bands plans for 2012 and the hard work that lies ahead, Tom went on to say,

"We can bring the music, and a bucket load of passion and dedication, but if we're going to take it to them, we need everyone of you, fighting with us to make music great again, telling people about the record, spreading the word, creating a movement from the working men's clubs, university bars and small venues up."

Tom is passionate about the state of the music industry, and wants to see more guitar bands back in the charts and on the radio. The Enemy are currently listening to all the bands that posted a Sound Cloud on their Facebook page with the view of giving a support slot at a gig or two later in the year.

Tom concluded his blog by saying, "Every band that breaks through the monopoly of the charts will pave the way for more, it's a time for bands to stick together, for music fans to unite, and to count every small victory against the rich TV pop kingmakers. We can do it, but we can't do it without you."

The Enemy are currently recording some tracks for their third album with Joby J Ford (The Bronx) in Los Angeles and will be touring the UK later in 2012.

Tom Clarke Launches Blog

Tom Clarke has launched his official blog with the aim of keeping fans updated about the progress of the third album. Tom has been tweeting over the past few months but told fans, "sometimes 140 characters just isn't enough to get across what I want to." He plans to use his official blog as an "opportunity to elaborate on things that can easily be misunderstood." The Enemy lead singer likened Twitter to the early days on MySpace, when the band would interact with fans.

Tom was full of praise for the fans saying, "I'd like to thank the thousands of Enemy fans who are always there. We appreciate you lot like no other band appreciates their fans. You guys make our band what it is, and we are eternally grateful for your support. We shall continue to graft our balls off to deliver you better and better albums by way of thanks."

The Enemy Offer Support Slots To New Bands

Tom Clarke from The Enemy is offering up and coming bands the chance to play support slots when the Coventry band hit the road in 2012. The lead singer is passionate about the state of the UK music scene and wants to see more guitar bands getting radio play and exposure.

Following recent media stories, Tom has personally set the record straight on the bands Facebook page, while at the same time being positive in asking any aspiring bands to post Sound Cloud links of their demos onto The Enemy Facebook page at : http://www.facebook.com/theenemy

The Enemy will then pick the band they like the most, and use that band for some supports next year. Tom said he wanted The Enemy to, "do our little bit" in his quest to 'save music'.

Tom told followers, "I hope that next year is a great year for us and that we get to continue doing this, which ultimately is in our hands. I also hope many other guitar bands return with a reinvigorated sense of purpose, and new ones break through. Rubbish as it might sound to you, I do want to save music and I want other bands to too."

Tom Clarke Sets The Record Straight

Tom Clarke has set the record straight after several media sources took his twitter comments out of context, when he wrote about the plight of the UK music scene at the moment. Here is what Tom first wrote on December 23rd,

"Radio and music in general is fucking appalling at the moment, half these so called artist can't come back with a second single let alone an album of substance. It's all cool for five minutes then on to the next.... there are no career musicians in the charts at the moment."

"The closest thing is Coldplay, and although I do like their latest song, they have been churning out tired middle of the road impressions of themselves for a decade now."

"Why is nobody brave enough to make a great album. A record that can define a time? That can say what we're all thinking? Seriously? I got mildly excited when I heard the first Vaccines song, then they followed it up with a song about scuba diving equipment."

"People are so out of touch it pains me. I've still got the kitchen and bathroom to decorate but looks like we'll have to save music again ;) (the last tweet was half in jest. Only half mind."

Here are the press reports following those comments:
NME wrote: The Enemy's Tom Clarke has said that music is "fucking appalling at the moment" and believes it's up to him and his band to save it.

The singer posted a series of messages on his Twitter account earlier this week (December 23) criticising his peers for failing to be "brave" and making a "great album" to encapsulate the times.

Clarke, who is working on a third album with The Enemy that will be released in 2012, wrote: "Radio and music in general is fucking appalling at the moment.

"Why is nobody brave enough to make a great album? A record that can define a time? That can say what we're all thinking? Seriously?"

He later added:
People are so out of touch it pains me. I've still got the kitchen and bathroom to decorate but looks like we'll have to save music again.
Clarke, who later said he his messages had been "half in jest", told NME earlier this year that the follow-up to 2009's 'Music For The People' would see The Enemy return to the more direct sound of their 2007 debut 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns'.

The frontman also admitted that the LP would be make or break for the Coventry trio, adding: "This album will be the one that defines where that goes – whether it doesn't work and we go 'That's it' or we find the sound that drives us forward."

The Sun wrote: TOM CLARKE is so disgusted with the music in today's charts that he reckons his band need to save the industry.

The Enemy frontman said: "Radio and music in general is fucking appalling at the moment.

"People are so out of touch it pains me.

"I've still got the kitchen and bathroom to decorate but it looks like we'll have to save music again."

Tom later said his messages had been in "half in jest".

What the press failed to report were Tom Clarke's following comments, where he said:

"My 'save music' comment was completely tongue in cheek. Out of context - looks horrendous. I didn't take it out of context, other people did. However, I genuinely think the British music charts are a disgrace. They don't showcase British guitar music, and there is too much talent for radio to ignore. Somebody needs to do something to address it."

"Now what I was saying, is we're going to work our bollocks to try, and I'm sure there are many bands who are going to as well, and who are more than capable of doing so, and who I hope will! We're all in the same game, the same boat - bands can either stick together now and make a difference, and make the charts a more interesting place or they can bicker and divide fans."

"Personally, I wish every band the best of luck next year, because there is room for lots of them. Ultimately, people need to lighten up. It's not that I shouldn't be saying it, it's that every band should, and we should all be saying that together, we're all going to save music from the X Factor infested dribble that bothers the charts now days."

"We are working very hard, to try to make a difference. And I adore my fans, and ALL fans of proper music, whether they like The Enemy or not. Because really, at the end of the day, only they have the power to decide what is massive. Not radio, not the press - certainly not me. All I do, is try to do my job to the best of my ability, and listen to my fans, and my critics, because I care what people think."

"I hope that next year is a great year for us and that many other guitar bands return, and new ones break through. I want to save music and I want other bands to too. We all do! Then we can turn on the radio and dance our heads off all year long!"

Tom went on to say,

"If I knew NME would run a piece on it, I would've been much more careful with my words. I'm not an idiot, I know how it looks out of context. All guitar bands need to step up and save music this year -the UK is full of great bands. I don't think the NME twisted anything. I think the piece was bang on. The mistake was my lack of clarity on what I meant. For the first time in a long time, there are some genuinely good people who love music working at NME."

"Kasabian are the only light in a desolate wasteland of half hearted pish, Kasabian are real." Speaking about The Vaccines 'Wet Suit', Tom said: "Put a wet suit on go on go on....Why??? I live in Coventry? Are we goin' to the swimming baths? Speedos will suffice if so."

"The Subways are another example of a proper band. They put the hard graft in. Amazing to see them doing well. Big love for em."

"I should make clear I'm not having a pop at The Vaccines. It's good to at least hear some guitars on radio, and I haven't heard the album so I'm basing my entire opinion on one song, which is probably not fair. But still... Wet Suit? Really? It's been taken too seriously, when it was intended to be read with a pinch of salt."

"OK, I'm going to release a single about a snorkel. I'm not having a pop at em (The Vaccines), can't wait to sit down and listen to the album, just saying, Wet Suit is weak - and anyway, in context I was making the point that there's nothing on radio that says anything to me. Don't get me wrong, they're better than 99% of stuff on radio, just the Wet Suit thing went over my head. My comment was tongue in cheek."

"The Vaccines are one of the most exciting bands to break through in a long time. Got proper enthused , early (The) Doors when I saw them on Jools Holland. There is no question that they are better than 99% of the drivel out at the moment. The point I made earlier, was that after the ballsy guitar heavy early singles, Wet Suit left me a bit wanting. Now that's just my personal opinion, I meant no offence to the band, I think they're doing a great job in a difficult market and I look forward to having a proper listen to the album.

"I should have known by now that in the public domain people will jump on something you've said and apply unintended gravitas to a personal opinion. In general, I hope they (The Vaccines) do really well! Hope no offence was taken. From what I hear, the album is superb! Lots of Enemy fans think so!"

"Thank fuck for Kerrang Radio - without them I'd of thrown the car radio out the window long ago. Love XFM, just don't get it up here in Cov. I won't (be) apologising for saying I hope, and want to get more guitars in the charts and on mainstream radio."
"There's no denying there are plenty of great young bands about. The crime is that they're not on the radio and a load of shit is. (I've) seen Beady Eye loads now, love their energy, and Noel's stuff proves he's an epic songwriter. Would love another Oasis album."

"I don't want to offend people who are working hard and trying to get guitars bigger. What I've learnt over the years, is to try to avoid offending people with my mouth, and let the music talk. My plan is to work my bollocks off, record a guitar heavy album that is absolutely the best I can make, and hope (The) Enemy fans love it., and that some people who aren't Enemy fans are converted too. I think it's possible to do that, without talking trash and needlessly alienating people. Because ultimately, I care about people - without Enemy fans, we'd be three lads in a room who never got to make a record."

Liam Watts gets his passport ready!

The Enemy will be jetting off to Los Angeles in the USA early in the New Year for some serious recording with new album producer Joby Ford (The Bronx). The band are in positive mood leading into Christmas, saying that recording of the first new tunes had gone well. The Enemy are returning to their roots musically, while taking on board the experience of Joby Ford. The lads were at Kore Studios in West London earlier this month putting some new tracks on test. The studios can boast the likes of Kasabian, Manic Street Preachers and Noah And The Whale as clients - with a £350 half day fee, it makes true the saying 'time is money'!

John Dawkins - the man who discovered the Coventry trio, has listened to the new tracks and has tweeted very encouragingng comments about the sound of the new album. John has been working hard behind the scenes making sure the return of The Enemy is just what the fans ordered. (He is also involved with the more mundane tasks, like ferrying Liam Watts around Peterborough for his new passport .... as seen in the picture above!)

Speaking on their Facebook page, The Enemy confirmed the third album is expected to be out around May/June 2012.

Record Label Confirm The Enemy Album Release

It might be one of the worst kept secrets in the music world, but The Enemy's new record label have finally confirmed the news ......

Cooking Vinyl has signed Coventry-based three-piece The Enemy, ahead of the release of the band’s third album in the Spring.

Previously signed to Warners, the band first came to attention with their Platinum-selling debut album ‘We’ll Live and Die In These Towns’ in 2007, and the Top three Gold-selling follow-up ‘Music For The People’ from 2009. They join Cooking Vinyl on a royalty deal for the world release of their third album, scheduled for May 2012.

The band, lead by Tom Clarke, begin work on their third album this month at Kore studios in Acton with The Bronx’s Joby J. Ford in the producer’s chair. A hugely popular live act, they supported Oasis on their final UK dates and will be announcing live dates to coincide with the album’s release.

The Enemy are managed by Nick Ember and David Bianchi for Various Artists Management, whose roster includes Reverend & The Makers, Carl Barat, The Libertines, Charli XCX and Killing Joke.

Cooking Vinyl has scored a coup by signing Coventry-based three-piece The Enemy, with a new album set for release in May next year.

They join the UK indie label on a royalty deal for the world release of the LP, which they begin work on at Kore studios in Acton this month - with The Bronx’s Joby J. Ford in the producer’s chair. They will be announcing live dates to coincide with the album’s release.

The Enemy were previously signed to Warner for Platinum-selling debut album We’ll Live and Die In These Towns (No.1, 2007), and Gold-selling follow-up Music For The People (No.2, 2009).

The Enemy’s Tom Clarke answers Andy Parker from Electric Banana's '10 Questions for Tom Clarke' Q&A during a hectic spell for the frontman and the band! The Coventry lads have recently hit the studio to write and record their “superb” third album with a genius producer – which is going “to put The Enemy back on the map” and make 2012 their biggest year to date. Electric Banana is a Coventry based music website offering the latest UK indie music reviews, news and entertainment. The following interview was posted on their website:

1) The Enemy are currently working on your 3rd album, what’s it sounding like?
It sounds very guitar orientated. It’s comparable to the first Enemy album, but with a distinct maturity to it and it’s a great stand alone record in its own right. We’ve gone to great pains to make sure the writing and recording process has been thorough and intense.

2) What music has been on your stereo most during 2011?
The Bronx. An American band, who have the biggest guitar sound ever. We drafted in Joby J Ford from the Bronx to produce Enemy 3.

3) Would you support The Stone Roses for the reunion shows?
I would cut off my big toe to do so. And I will if necessary.

4) X Factor. Do you hate it or see it as harmless family entertainment like Noel Gallagher?
Good TV. Shit music. That’s my view.

5) What is your fave TV show at the minute?
I love Educating Essex. Not to be confused with that appalling show The Only Way Is Essex. The only way to what? Contract chlamydia and buy a BMW M3 with outstanding finance. No ta. Educating Essex is an entirely different programme, showing brilliant teachers who care about kids educations.

6) What was the last DVD you bought?
Senna!!! Watch it!

7) You’re known as a big fan of cars, what is parked in your driveway at the minute?
Well I’ve still got the Jaguar E-Type. Enzo Ferrari said it was the most beautiful car ever made, makes me proud to be from Coventry when I drive about in it. I’ve had lots of Jags and a TVR, there’s currently a Porsche in the garage but my day to day drive is an old diesel Alfa Romeo which refuses to die! Perfect for ferrying the god daughter about in and trips to B&Q!

8) Have you got a top secret celeb crush?
Yes thanks.

9) If your friends and family are struggling to think of an Xmas gift for you, what can you suggest that they can get you?
A remote control helicopter, or if they’re feeling flush a real one.

10) Finally, what will be the New Years resolutions for The Enemy for 2012?
Take the musical world by storm and deliver the fans the Enemy album they dream of. I’m so focused right now it’s all I can think of. We want 2012 to be our biggest year to date. We’ve got a superb album, a genius producer, an Oasis sized gap in the market and very little competition. Time to put The Enemy back on the map.

Along with bands like Kasabian, midland rock outfit "The Enemy" (or if you're American, "The Enemy UK") have proven themselves capable of packing out venues such as Coventry's Ricoh Arena two nights in a row. They've supported legends The Rolling Stones, as well as Oasis and the Kaiser Chiefs, and there's a good chance that even if you haven't purchased any albums by The Enemy, you're likely to know some of their epic songs already, such as "Be Somebody". Grace, being a resourceful Jitty editor, and fan of The Enemy, tracks down Tom and asks him what the band have been up to lately:

You've been away for a while, what's been happening with The Enemy?

We took a little time out at the end of the last tour. We were all burned out after five years of touring and we needed some time to do normal stuff again.

We got back in the rehearsal room after about nine months and started writing for Album three. Since then we've written a lot of songs, narrowed it down to about thirty and we're now in the process of narrowing it down further to fifteen, which we will record and select the best ten/eleven for the album. Recording started this week and is sounding brilliant.

So in the press you've said to expect big things from The Enemy next year, what can we expect?

There will be a massive press tour in the early part of 2012 when we explain what the intricate plans are, but for now it's safe to say we'll be releasing singles in early 2012 and an album will follow shortly afterwards, within the first half of the year. There will be a massive open air gig in the midlands, and lots of festival appearances throughout the UK. We're looking to play in Scotland and Northern Ireland as well as the open air show, and we want to pay particular attention to London as I feel most areas of London are ignored by big bands. Then after the festivals, there will be an all out Enemy UK Tour. There will doubtless be shows in Europe, Japan and the states too towards the end of the year, but for now that's all I can really say.

You're working on a third album, what makes it different from 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' and 'Music For The People?' Have you gone about writing and recording it in a different way from the previous two albums?

We've spent an unprecedented time writing. That's meant we've got a huge wealth of songs to choose from. We've never been in such a good position on album one or two where that's concerned. We're also working with a guy called Joby J Ford, who's from the American band "The Bronx" they're a proper guitar band, and the fusion of our uber Britishness and Joby's passion for big loud guitars and well recorded drums is a winning combination.

Obviously the enemy have been around for quite a while now, and you've said in an interview with the Coventry telegraph that it's really good that there's a new rehearsal studio opened in Coventry, what was it like when you were first starting out as a band? Where would you go to first start rehearsing?

When we first started we rehearsed in Leamington, under a railway bridge. A local Coventry band "Russian Girlfriend" owned a little rehearsal space there. It was £8 an hour, which we scraped together every Tuesday and spent all night there. Was brilliant fun. That said, there is a huge lack of rehearsal spaces, and creative forums in general for young people to express themselves. The new rehearsal rooms in Coventry marks the beginning of a council committed to caring for the creative people in our society. I think it's absolutely brilliant.

Do yourself, Liam or Andy have any side projects going on along side the band?

No not really...our focus has been Enemy Album Three. We want this album to be huge, we're working very hard to try and make an album that all the fans will love, that radio will play, and that will translate live since that's what the enemy is all about.

Finally being a local band yourselves and having a lot of experience, what tips would you give to bands that are just starting out, and if you could change anything about what you did while starting out what would it be?

Never give up. Lots of people will tell you it's impossible. We're proof that it's not. You get out what you put in, it's like any career, work hard and you will prosper. Take any opportunity, we played some right dives, because we were grateful for a gig... You have to have the right attitude, if you act like Bono before you've even sold a CD you're not going to go very far. We've sold a lot of CD's now! And I'm still grateful for every offer we get. Stay grounded, be nice.

The Enemy Set For Biggest Coventry Gig Ever

Coventry Observer reporter Steve Carpenter said that The Enemy will be returning to the city for a massive future gig, here is his story......

ROCKERS The Enemy have revealed they will play their "biggest gig to date" when they visit Coventry as part of their 2012 tour.

The local band shot to fame back in 2007 with their debut album We'll Live and Die in These Towns and have since gone on to become one of the most recognised rock bands within the past ten years.

Tom Clarke, Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins, who were all back in the city on Tuesday to give their seal of approval to a new music venue in the Canal Basin, have kept a fairly low profile after releasing their second album, Music for the People, in 2009.

And Clarke revealed in a tweet that their new album will be launched early next year, which will include a UK tour across UK, which will include them playing in Coventry for the first time in two years.

"There will be a large open air gig in Coventry and it will be the biggest how we'll have put on to date," confirmed Clarke on the social networking site Twitter.

He added: "The album will be similar to the first but with everything we've learned over the last five or six years applies."

The band are planning "Major" gigs in Scotland, Northern Ireland and in the south and are set to appear at the majority of summer festivals next year.

The Enemy Sign Indie Record Deal

The Enemy are back on an indie record label for their third album, after updating their Facebook page with the exciting news. Coventry Telegraph reporter and local music lover, Warren Manger writes more in his latest blog update......

COVENTRY stars The Enemy have singed to a new record label to release their third album, which they predict will be their best yet.

The trio have inked a deal with Cooking Vinyl (home to The Prodigy, Primal Scream and Marylin Manson).

No release date or title has been confirmed for the new album, but it is expected early next year.

The band wrote on their Facebook page: "Delighted to say we've all but finished writing our 3rd Album and we'll be recording proper in early December with Joby J. Ford (of U.S. band The Bronx) taking the production chair.

"We're chuffed to be working with Joby, and equally happy that the material he'll be working on with us is our best yet... and very full on.

"We are delighted to still be on an Indie label - as we started life on Stiff Records - and Cooking Vinyl feels like home already."

The Music Abyss brought you news that the band believed Ford would help them create a "balls out of the bath rock and roll" sound on the new album.

Frontman Tom Clarke their goal was to "remind people what rock is, what musicians are, what a great song sounds like and what's missing from radio at the moment."

Clarke also promised The Enemy would stage a huge open air show in Coventry next year and embark on a full world tour.

Could it be that the Enemy plan to return to Godiva Festival on the fifth anniversary of their landmark 2007 show?

The band played the night before it was confirmed their debut album We'll Live And Die In These Towns had shot straight to number one in the UK chart.

It was arguably the best and most fondly remembered set in Godiva's history.

Clarke has also revealed he would love to work with Coventry's Turner Prize nominee George Shaw.

Much of the artist's work is inspired by his childhood in Tile Hill. His exhibition I Woz Ere is at the Herbert Art Gallery until March and he will discover whether he has won the prestigious Turner Prize on Monday (December 5).

Clarke said: "We paint pictures of what we see in music while George Shaw does the same in his art work.

"I'd love the opportunity to work with him in any capacity."

THE Enemy’s Tom Clarke has said he would love the chance to work with Turner Prize-nominated Coventry artist George Shaw.

The Coventry band are about to record their third album after achieving mainstream success with their first two offerings We’ll Live And Die In These Towns and Music For The People.

Lead singer and guitarist Tom said the new album uses similar influences as before, writing about “what makes The Enemy tick” and “singing what we see”.

He added he sees similarities between what the band does and what artist George Shaw does in his paintings.

Shaw, who will find out on Monday whether he has been awarded the prestigious Turner Prize, uses his childhood in Tile Hill, Coventry, as a major influence in his work.

Tom, who along with his bandmates Liam and Andy, still live in the Coventry area, said: “We paint pictures of what we see in music while George Shaw does the same in his art work.

“I’d love the opportunity to work with him in any capacity.”

Shaw currently has an exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery called I Woz Ere, featuring a series of paintings of scenes around the Tile Hill estate where he grew up.

And while The Enemy have not been in the public eye much over the last year they are looking forward to releasing their next album next year.

The trio, all now 25, are about to go into the studio to record their third album after spending the last year writing it.

They have been working with producer Joby, from Californian band The Bronx.

Tom said: “We’ve worked hard on it over the last year. Musically it’s closer to the first album than the second but it’s unique in its own right.”

Bassist Andy Hopkins and drummer Liam Watts said they were both excited about releasing more of their music.

“So many songs have come together. The difficulty is picking which ones we want on the album,” Andy said.

The Enemy Rehearse For Third Album

The Enemy are back in Coventry and rehearsing for the new album, the Coventry Telegraph printed this story:

COVENTRY band The Enemy have given their backing to a rehearsal space in the city which hopes to inspire a new generation of musicians.

Tom Clarke, Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins, all aged 25, were at Taylor John’s Music Venue, in the Canal Basin, along with Roddy Byers from The Specials.

As well as hosting regular live performances the venue has expanded into additional units to provide rehearsal space for up-and-coming artists.

It is part of a joint project between Taylor John’s, the city council and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, UK Music, and the Music Industry Association.

The Enemy’s Tom Clarke said: “A place like this can really raise the profile of Coventry but in my view more still needs to be done. This is the beginning.

“Coventry is way behind when it comes to providing world class rehearsal space. Manchester has them and there’s no reason why Coventry shouldn’t. It’s a much more central city.

"I just hope people don’t take it for granted and don’t wreck it. I want them to appreciate the chance they’ve got because it’s something we didn’t have.”

Bassist Andy said: “When we started out we had to go and rent a space in Leamington because there was nowhere suitable or affordable here. It would have been amazing to have somewhere like this. When we started out the biggest factor was cost.

“A lot of people just can’t get started and not everyone’s mums and dads are up for having drums played for hours in their homes.”

The band is about to go into the studio to record their third album after spending a year writing.

They are working with Californian producer Joby and said they were “ridiculously excited” about releasing the record, hopefully as soon as early next year.

Roddy Byers said he was pleased to see something positive to encourage more creativity and music for people in the city. “When I first started we used to push the gear from place to place in a wheelbarrow.

"This is a great way of getting the kids off the streets. Drumming is a great way of taking out the aggression, that’s what I used to do!” he said.

Councillor Tony Skipper, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Culture, said: “These music rehearsal spaces provide access to a larger selection of instruments and equipment and mean Coventry people will have an opportunity to use affordable city centre facilities that I’m sure will prove to be very popular.

"We’re committed to providing quality facilities for young people to develop their passion and experience in creative industries.”

The lead singer of The Enemy is a passionate petrolhead.

And although he has little racing experience — well, none at all actually — he reckons he could do a better job than flop Felipe.

Tom, 25, follows the FI scene avidly, finding it a lot less boring than Coventry — The Enemy's home city regularly derided by the band.

He runs a classic Jaguar E-Type on the road and has dabbled on the track at The Sun's Bizarre celebrity race day, hosted at Silverstone earlier this year by our Showbiz Editor Gordon Smart.

It gave him a taste for bombing flat out around circuits.

And he said: "Racing is something I'd like to get into. It would be a huge adrenalin rush."

SunSport caught up with the speed-loving star at Silverstone, where he was a guest of our columnist Jason Plato at the final round of the British Touring Car Championship.

The Enemy Talks To NME About Third Album

The NME reports that The Enemy have admitted that they will face an uncertain future if their third studio album doesn't succeed in the latest edition of the weekly music magazine.
The Coventry trio endured a disappointing response to their 2009 second album 'Music For The People' and have revealed that they have returned to the more direct sound of their 2007 debut 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' for their new LP, which is due to be released next summer.

Speaking to NME, the band's frontman Tom Clarke said of where he believes the group are in their career: "A lot of bands experience the pivot point in their career where it's make or break on their second album, but I don't think we did that. This album will be the one that defines where that goes – whether it doesn't work and we go 'That's it' or we find the sound that drives us forward."

The band also revealed that they have 30 songs written for the album and hope to get it out next year. They have yet to decide on a producer.

The Enemy: Studio Update

Coventry legend John Dawkins has been in the studio with The Enemy as they prepare for their third album and he has reported great things about the new tunes. John said the band are 'really on fire' as they write tunes for the new album. The lads look set to return to the anthem style songs similar to 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns', which saw the Coventry trio top the album chart back in July 2007.

To keep fans updated, John posted these pictures of The Enemy while they got down to business in the studio (proving they are not sat on their arse doing nothing!). With nineteen new demo's to choose from, The Enemy look like they will have a few hard choices to make about which songs will make the third album.

Fans will be able to watch The Enemy perform in Belfast on Thursday 22nd September for Guinness Arthur's Day and may even be treated to a few new tunes......

The sun shone (mostly!), we caught up with old mates, then you lot did what we hoped you would and made the tents one giant sing-a-long. We did what we came to do and tested a couple of new songs including 'This Is Real' which you can still download for free from here which you guys seemed to like, and then we blasted out as many singles as time would allow."

"We have had a few tweets etc asking why we were not playing on main stage as some of you couldn't get in the tent to see us. To be honest we really just wanted to do 2 shows under the radar (ish) in order to blow off some cobwebs and try out new material. Luckily Bob, Simon, Mags and Dennis whom promote us and or run V allowed us to jump aboard at the last minute and become a surprise act for the weekend. I thought it worked rather well but if you didn't get in or couldn't see properly I am sorry and we will try and hurry this album along and get back on the road as soon as possible!"

Other than Arthur's Day in Ireland, am pretty sure they were the last shows before the new album now but I promise that when we return we will play our most comprehensive tour yet and try and hit as many towns and cities as we can."

V Festival Announce The Enemy As Special Guests

Fans have greeted the news that The Enemy will be performing at this year's V Festival with delight. The band announced yesterday that they will be the special guests (along with Hard Fi) at the sell out festival this weekend. The Enemy said, "Yep, we’re proud to announce that we are the Special Surprise Guests for V Festival on both sites this weekend, on the bill with Eminem, Arctic Monkeys and Plan B." Fans of The Enemy will also be in for a treat, as the band confirmed, "We’re gonna play a bunch of singles plus road test a couple of new trax as promised."

The Enemy will be performing on Saturday 20th August at 16:25 to 16:55 at the Undercover by Virgin Media Stage at Chelmsford and then on Sunday at Staffordshire. Andy Hopkins said he was "Looking forward to banging out some tunes at V!"

MUSIC fans could get the chance to question Coventry band The Enemy this month.

The indie three-piece are calling on people to send questions about their upcoming third album which should be released next year.

The best questions will then be selected and a video of someone putting them to the band will be posted on their website.

Frontman Tom Clarke said: “We would rather hear what you wanted from us rather than what we thought you wanted.”

A demo of their third album – called This Is Real – has been made available to download on the band’s page on social networking website Facebook.

It comes after the city’s best-known group from recent years performed in Ayia Napa last month alongside Brit Pop act The Charlatans and electro music duo Chase and Status.

The Enemy To Perform In Belfast

The Enemy will be in action on Thursday 22nd September 2011 as they return to Ireland for the Guinness Arthur's Day celebrations. Tom, Liam and Andy performed at the event back in 2009 and are looking forward to performing an intimate gig at Belfast's Ulster Hall.

The Northern Ireland gig promises to be a treat for all music lovers as The Enemy, Ash and Cashier No.9 will all be playing at the Ulster Hall venue. Other gigs will take place in Dublin, Limerick and Cork, helping to raise funds for the Guinness Arthur's Day Fund, which goes towards good causes in the community.

The Enemy have also told fans via their Facebook page that they will also be putting on "a surprise performance in a pub... and we can't wait!" Tickets for the Arthur's Day performance can be purchased via Ticketmaster for £13.50 (plus fees)

Three years ago, The Enemy returned to Coventry once more and appeared for free in front of 10,000 people. Although the rain was relentless, fans braved the downpour and sang along with The Enemy. The Coventry Telegraph reported on 07/07/08:

THE ENEMY were welcomed back to Coventry by thousands of cheering fans on Saturday.

After a sunny day at the Godiva Festival, early-evening downpours meant numbers were well short of the 30,000 originally expected on the main night of the three-day event.

But more than 10,000 fans braved the weather for their heroes' homecoming gig by the time they took to the stage at 9.30pm.

The trio kicked off with Away From Here, which had the audience screaming and singing along.

Their performance completed a successful second day of the festival, which had earlier included a set from Shadowplay, the winners of G Factor, and up and coming band The Ripps.

As well as the music, throughout the day thousands of people enjoyed everything else the festival had to offer.

Interview With The Enemy In Ayia Napa

Top British rockers swarmed to Ayia Napa for this year’s Napa Live music festival, NAOMI LEACH goes backstage and met The Enemy (as reported in Cyprus Mail)

Rays of green neon light splay across the crowd. The bass guitar groans and the raucous mob pound their feet, stomping the ground rhythmically and jerking back and forwards to the pulsing heavy rift. Twisted Wheel close their deafening set and platinum selling rockers The Enemy saunter on stage. Lead singer Tom Clarke swaggers to the microphone with a guitar in one hand. He points appreciatively at the crowd and their top ten hit ‘Away From Here’ erupts. The crowd dance feverishly, chanting along. A plastic cup of beer is flung into the mosh pit at the front and splashes on the topless torsos of men, busily slamming into each other. Further back a blonde is hoisted on to her boyfriend’s shoulders. She sways enthusiastically to the music, arms outstretched to the stage. As hit tune ‘We’ll Live and Die in These Towns’ swells through the venue in Tom’s thick Coventry drawl it’s easy to forget exactly where we are.

This scene was not at this week’s Glastonbury rock festival in the UK, it was in fact at last weekend’s indie music festival in Ayia Napa. The Enemy performed live alongside Twisted Wheel on the second night of the three day Napa Live festival. Then acclaimed Birmingham indie band The Twang and northern rock legends The Charlatans completed the line up by performing at the festival the following night.

For a dose of garage, house and reggae people flock to the island’s clubbing mecca, Ayia Napa but now indie rock is an unexpected and welcome addition to the music scene. Tourists and super fans alike are embracing the burgeoning scene as the Napa Live festival flourishes in its second year. It was set up by Chris Topliss, the man behind Napa hangout the Live Lounge.

During their sound check, I grabbed a few minutes with The Enemy to find out what brought them to Ayia Napa. The first thing that strikes me about the three piece act is how young and diminutive they look, not what you’d expect when listening to their raw, contagious anthems, riling against working class oppression with humour and pathos.

Front man and songwriter Tom Clarke has a confident, self possessed interviewing style full of pithy, dry asides. Bassist Andy Hopkins is friendly and open, while drummer Liam Watts is polite but the group fall into the natural patter of allowing Tom to be the band’s voice piece.

Andy is wearing a sling, which I notice he ditches later for the gig. The injury happened at the recent Download Festival.

“I fell over drunk. It happens a lot. I fell on my face, broke a finger before a gig, in Ibiza. And broke my heel before V festival,” he admits nonchalantly. It never stops him playing though, he declares proudly.

They say they have matured since their explosive entry on to the music scene in 2007, hailed as the saviours of rock, by the music press. “Everyone’s grown up. Become a better band,” explains Tom. They are currently working on their third album which will be a return to the ‘smack you in the face’ immediacy of the first album.

Although The Enemy has had a successful whirlwind few years performing and recording, they claim to lead very normal lives. Andy says “Life isn’t the band. We still have lives in and outside of the band,” Doing what? I ask. “We still nip to Sainsbury’s to get the milk. Pay the mortgage,” replies Tom.

Much as the band try to maintain normality by still living in Coventry they lead a lifestyle many would envy.

“Yeah if you say touring the world playing gigs in beautiful places is a dream, then you could consider it a dream. There’s perks, playing live shows, gigs here, stuff like this. I was lying in the pool earlier and thinking it’s not a bad life,” Tom admits.

The boys looked pretty relaxed hours before their headlining gig but confess they do still feel the nerves sometimes.

Liam confides “My biggest worry is to go on stage and I don’t know where I’m walking. I don’t want to go on stage and get lost in front of so many people.”

“I get a bit more nervous when not gigging.” Andy confesses,

“I’m more nervous now. But it’s healthy nerves, an adrenaline rush, in the run up I’m thinking ‘where are the pedals?’ I used to turn up have a beer and just stroll on stage,” reveals Tom.

“There’s more pedals now,” smirks Andy.

“We’ve got a loyal following because of our live gigs. We always play our hearts out, we always say ‘Let’s play like it could be the last version played!’” declares Tom.

The band jumped at the opportunity to play in the new indie hot spot of the Mediterranean. “There’s a massive expat community here and in that way Cyprus is a bit of a one off. They’re trying to build a huge indie movement. There are also a lot of Scandinavians in Cyprus and they don’t know indie, it’s totally foreign to them. That should be exciting, it’s what music is about, discovering stuff you didn’t know about already”.

Andy Hopkins Arm In Sling Ahead Of Ayia Napa Gig

As The Enemy headed off to Ayia Napa for their gig at the Napa Live Festival (The Chameleon Club, 10pm on June 16th 2011), Andy Hopkins had his arm in a sling. According to the bands Facebook page, Andy had been having a good time at the Download Festival but The Enemy would still be performing their planned gig tonight.

Andy Hopkins has experienced a few injuries since the band made it big in 2007, yet this has never deterred him from diving into the crowds from the stage during various gigs (as seen in these pictures.) Tom Clarke also injured himself in March 2009 while riding his new motorbike but rang fans personally in Tunbridge Wells after the band were unable to perform at an intimate free gig. The Enemy are looking forward to their gig in Cyprus today and fans can expect to see the Coventry lads more and more as they prepare for the third album - due out in early 2012.

The Enemy Reward Fans With Free Download

The Enemy are giving fans a free copy of 'This Is Real', the brand new demo track that should be on the new album early next year.

This is what Tom, Liam and Andy wrote to fans of The Enemy:

Just to prove we are writing and recording the new album we are giving all you lot on the mailing list / Facebook a demo of a new song from the third album. The song is called 'This Is Real', and I'll spare you long winded explanations, but I guess the lyrics are self explanatory and reflective of where we are all at right now.

To get the new track, head over to our Facebook page and give us a "like" to unlock it. Our Facebook, which is now being updated and looked after properly, will be a real meeting place for us and you lot.
We're now dipping our toes in the murky waters of social media for the first time properly. Our official Twitter will be here and all three of us, with help from the road crew, will be updating when and where we feel it. I will, however, not be updating you on what I'm having for breakfast or what pants Liam is wearing...because that stuff winds me up.

We also head to Ayia Napa on Wednesday to play a set made up of the last two albums, and road testing a few new uns too. The Charlatans and Chase & Status are playing the same festival as us, so definitely worth checking out if you're planning on heading over. Looks like the album will come out early next year (we are thinking Feb) and we can't wait to get back out properly on the road. We have around 18 new tracks at the min, working titles include, 'Melody', 'This Is Real', 'Its Automatic', 'All Or Nothing', 'Come Into My World', etc, etc…

We are still writing, and in fact are recording four more demos next week and enjoying being three lads in a small room banging out tunes again. I hope you enjoy 'This is Real' as much as we have thinking about banging it live and watching the room go off!

As much as I have loved watching Kasabian, Beady Eye and The Antics smash it live over the last few months, time off is for pussy's!!! So see ya soon unless you're in Ayia Napa, in which case see you over the next few days.

The Enemy Are Back - But Will Anyone Notice?

Four years ago in July, The Enemy were number one with their debut album 'We'll Live And Die in These Towns' and the new darlings of the musical press. Yet we all know how fickle the media can be when it comes to bands and artists. These days The Enemy struggle to even get a mention in the NME, but to be fair - the lads had been on a well earned break after touring almost constantly since the start of 2007.

The recent secret gig in Leamington Spa has thus far remained a secret from the wider world, perhaps indicating the uphill battle facing The Enemy prior to the release of their third album. Indie bands have but vanished into the haze as R&B dominate the UK charts, making a return to the music scene even more harder for The Enemy. The worst possible scenario for The Enemy would be to release a brilliant album that goes almost unnoticed by the masses.

Fans know that Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts can put on a fast paced live performance - those who were lucky enough to be at the Adidas secret gig also know the new album sounds very promising. The Enemy have grown up and moved on from 'Music For The People', the new tunes are a welcome return to form. They actually sound like The Enemy again, instead of a rather over inflated egotistical rock band! Gone are the long guitar rifts and the need to sound like other bands, thankfully we have catchy, uptempo tunes that will have you tapping your feet within seconds.

Tom Clarke has always written songs ahead of his age, as a teenager he was writing gritty lyrics about life in Coventry and the trappings of working life - not your average teenager! Now in his early twenties, Tom seems to have found a happy medium lyrically. The new tunes will have lads and lasses singing out loud to 'Come Into My World' and 'This Is Real', while 'Like A Dancer' not only has a beat that totally belongs to The Enemy - the lyrics tell a simple story. No wonder 'there's a twinkle in her little eye' , The Enemy have the potential for some chart success.

Much will depend on how the record label promote The Enemy's new album, fans will be hoping it is a damn sight than how they promoted 'Music For The People'. The shift from being close to their fans (album #1) to becoming a corporate product (album #2) was a painful journey, maybe we can arrive at a compromise (album #3) where The Enemy do what they do best and also keep fans up to date, while fans realise the band have moved beyond the borders of Coventry. It would be sad if the third album became one of those great sounding albums that never gets appreciated. The Enemy are back with new songs that (if marketed correctly) could see Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts back at the top of the UK charts.

The Enemy Reveal New Album Tracks

Three track titles have been revealed from the upcoming album from The Enemy, as highlighted by NME.COM

The Coventry trio have been working on the album in Warwickshire's Vada Studios as well as London's Konk and The Pool facilities. Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams has been on production duties.

Songs set for the album include 'This Is Real', 'Melody' and 'She's A Dancer', with the band looking at a summer or autumn 2011 release date.

"We initially planned to take a year out," frontman Tom Clarke told Q.

Drummer Liam watts added: "But then after a few months we were just itching to play. We just couldn't keep away."

The new album will be the follow-up to the band's 2009 second album 'Music For The People'.

Tom Clarke Gives Album Update

NME spoke to Tom Clarke, who gave an update about the development of the third album. Here is the story:

The Enemy frontman Tom Clarke says the band's forthcoming third LP is more "mature" - but will still have some "screamers" on it.

The singer told NME that the Coventry trio are still in the writing and rehearsal stage of the album, but they were raring to get back out on the circuit.

"We have loads of tunes we're all excited about," he said. "Some of it is the most mature stuff we've ever written, and some of it is good old Enemy two-chord screamers."

He added: "We can't wait to be in the thick of it again. There's a quiet to fill, and nothing on the radio that's crying out to us. Like when we started…"

The album will be the follow-up to the band's second album, 2009's 'Music For The People'. It is expected in late 2011.

Earlier this year, Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery celebrated Coventry's rich musical heritage, from Frank Ifield to The Enemy. The exhibition brought together for the first time a fantastic selection of music memorabilia which highlighted the vibrancy and creativity of Coventry music. In the video above, Tom Clarke and John Dawkins talked about chavs and the early gigs.

For many people the pinnacle of the city's musical success came with Two Tone, when the Specials and the Selecter created a distinctive sound which reached an international audience. The Enemy Headline Bingley Music Festival

The Enemy will be performing a headline slot at this years Bingley Music Live Festival on Sunday September 5. The Coventry lads will be returning to the stage after enjoying a break since their second album release earlier this year.

The festival has been described as 'one of the most intimate and unique indie/pop music festivals in the UK' and will be held at Myrtle Park, one of Bradford Council’s most picturesque parks located in the heart of the rural town of Bingley.

Last year around 15,000 people turned up to the festival and tickets have gone on sale at £30, with James, Ash, Reef, Hadouken and the Buzzcocks joining The Enemy during the three day festival.

Tom Clarke Backs Coventry Gallery Fund Bid

THE lead singer of Coventry band The Enemy is backing an art gallery’s bid to win £100,000 in a national competition, reports Tara Behan for the Coventry Telegraph. Here is her story as reported on the Coventry Telegraph website:

Tom Clarke said winning the award would make The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum a “jewel in the crown of Coventry”.

The Jordan Well venue is one of four places across the country shortlisted for the Art Fund Prize, the UK’s largest single arts prize.

Members of the public have until 5pm on Friday June 18 to vote for their favourite venue.

Tom visited the Coventry gallery this week where he cast his vote to help it win the £100,000 prize

He said: “The Herbert means a lot to me personally, as we did one of our first ever gigs downstairs. No bands had played here before us, and not many people knew the gallery was here.

“It’s personal to us because we started here.”

The Enemy formed in 2006 and have since produced two albums, one of which went to number one, as well as a string of hit singles. Tom and his bandmates Liam Watts and Andy Hopkins have often spoken of their love of Coventry.

Tom said he hoped as many people as possible will show their support for The Herbert.

“It is one of the smallest museums in the country, but one of the best. Coventry has a broad scale of history, and we need somewhere that brings all of that together,” he said.

“If the Herbert was given some more money, it would become a jewel in the crown of Coventry.”

One of the latest exhibitions to go on display at The Herbert is From Here to There, which explores journeys and transformations and is open until July 22.

It features work by artist Balraj Khanna, painter of the spectacular fire curtain at The Hippodrome Theatre, Birmingham, who visited the museum and Coventry for the first time this week.

The Herbert is up against The Ashmolean Museum, in Oxford, the Blists Hill Victorian Town, in Telford and The Ulster Museum, in Belfast for the Arts Fund Prize.

Tom Clarke Praises Award Winning Venue

The Enemy's Tom Clarke was on the BBC Midlands Today programme singing the praises of local venue The Assembly. Here is the article from the BBC website:

A 1,000-capacity venue in Warwickshire has been voted the best in the UK by members of the music industry.

The Assembly in Leamington Spa beat contenders including The O2, Shepherd's Bush Empire and the Lexington to win the coveted Music Week award.

It reopened in August 2008 after designer Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen restored the venue to its former art-deco glory.

The Enemy's lead singer Tom Clark said the venue had an exciting vibe.

Promoter Chris Alexander told BBC News that people appreciated the friendly atmosphere.

"I think the fact that we're independent and it's the closest thing to a family run venue I can imagine without actually being related to anyone," he said.

"People like coming here. It's almost like coming to a family hotel or guest house but it happens to have a PA system and lights."

Tom Clarke, from rock band The Enemy, said he was glad the venue supported local talent.
"It's amazing," he said.

"This venue has been here for about three minutes and it's just got a plethora of amazing bands that have already played here.

"But, what I think is more amazing about it is, that the venue and the people that run it always give local bands the opportunity to support bigger bands coming through and that is how you get your break."

Here is an interview with Andy Hopkins after The Enemy gig in Austria recently. Wearing an Umbro England away shirt, Andy spoke to Umbro.com about the experience. this is the interview from the website:

What was it like to wear the England Away shirt on stage?

“It was quality! I was thinking that it might not go down too well, wearing an England shirt in Austria, but it was sound. There’s a lot of English people here at the gig, so that probably helped! The shirt is absolutely brilliant, the best one we’ve had in years. It’s quality.”

Snowbombing seems a bit different to a lot of other festivals, what’s it like?

“The festival is absolutely mint, you’re walking around on snow instead of mud. The actual town hasn’t got any snow, it’s just up on the mountain. The gigs are indoors, and it’s an amazing place, really quality. The crowds are very different to what we’re used to, a lot of them are into DJing and there’s a lot of DJs on here, so it’s nice to play to a different audience. We won them over, so it was a really good gig.”

What are you going to do now that you’d played your gig?

“We’re just going to chill out for a bit I think. You can go see bands up on the slopes, you snowboard in, have a drink and watch the band. It’s crazy, but it’s the best festival. You go up a chairlift, snowboard in and watch a gig. What’s that all about? Absolute quality.

The band are from Coventry, are you fans of your home town team?

“I’m a fan, but when we first got in the band, we were concentrating on that so much that we didn’t get to see much football for a while. Recently, I have been getting down to watch City a bit more though. We nearly got in the play offs, so everyone in Coventry was getting excited, but there’s no chance of it happening now!”

Do you think it’s important to follow your local team?

“Yeah, I think so. There was a lot of people supporting the bigger clubs when I was growing up in Coventry, and I didn’t understand it. It’d just feel weird to be from somewhere and not support that team. My family have always supported Coventry, it was my uncle that got me into them first – so I’ve got him to thank. I maybe regret that every time I go down to watch them!”

Will you be able to watch England this summer?

“Yep, we’re going to be writing our third album then, so we’ll be having a few barbeque's in the garden and getting the lads round I think.”

What would you do if you were scheduled to play a gig at the same time as a big England match?

“That’d be a nightmare! It’d be a weird one, I don’t think anyone would turn up for the gig would they? You’d just have to postpone it for a couple of hours I think. I remember we supported The Fratellis when we were just starting out, and they wouldn’t start a gig until they’d finished watching a game on a couple of occasions. They’d come on late, and get a few boos, but then they’d play a great show and everyone would be cheering them on. If you went on stage straight after a victory, that’d be an amazing atmosphere. I remember we played in Glasgow once right after an Old Firm game, my god that was mental! It was a bit of a scary gig to be honest!”

Why do you think The Enemy’s tunes are so popular with football fans?

“It’s the choruses I think. When Coventry fans play away, they sing ‘Awoah-woah woah, away from home’ which is quality. I noticed a lot of fans have starting singing The White Stripes at games, Seven Nation Army. What’s that all about?

Who’s the best footballer in the band?

“It is actually me, I’m not just saying that! Liam’s alright, he’s not that great in a game, but he’s good at tricks and things like that. If we’re hanging about before a sound check or something like that and we’ve got a ball to kick about he’s OK. Tom can’t really play though. I’m the only one that’s missed on Soccer AM though, so what do I know! I’m never going to live that down. I was gutted, especially when them two scored.”

Footballers are pretty good at acting like rock stars nowadays, but are they better at it than the bands?

“No! It’s got to be bands, footballers aren’t rock and roll. Which footballers are? They earn a lot of money, so they can flash the cash, but when you look at a band on tour for 30 nights, that’s a lot of nights out. I don’t think a lot of footballers could do that.”

Would you ever write a song for the England football team?

“I’d like to, I’d love that, but I don’t think Tom would. I don’t think anyone’s ever going to beat Three Lions though, that or New Order’s one. The worst ones are when people change old songs and try to fit England in – Come On Eileen changed into Come On England, that’s terrible! Stuff like that annoys me, you’ve got to watch out for that. You could release one and it’d ruin you!

The Enemy To DJ At Coventry 2-Tone Event

Hold on to your pork pie hats because The Enemy are set to appear at a fund raising event in Coventry on Saturday 22 May. The 2-Tone event will be raising money for a museum "aimed at not just 2-Tone /ska fans, but to locals and visitors alike and very importantly local schools, colleges and Universities. Proving once more that Coventry is a Host Town, and not a Ghost Town...."

The evening promises to be a lively one as The Specials very own Roddy Radiation and the Skabilly Rebels perform with other local bands. Other members of The Specials will also be in attendance and rare items will be sold off to raise money in an auction on the night.

New Material To Be Showcased Tonight

Fans of The Enemy are in for a real treat tonight as the band will be performing new material during the charity 'ChildLine Rocks' gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London. Tom Clarke highlighted the work of ChildLine saying, "ChildLine do such important work and need lots of support so we are really excited to be involved and on such a great bill."

Reverend and the Makers will also be at the gig, along with Carl Barat, raising money and awareness for the work of ChildLine. For anyone in the London area, a few remaining tickets are available on the door at the O2 venue in Shepherd's Bush Empire. Doors open at 19:30.

While most people try and get the day off work when it's their birthday, Tom Clarke spent his working hard. Even though The Enemy are having a break, the lads put on a performance during the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour as it stopped by in London on March 11.

The Enemy Top FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour Bill

The Enemy were back as they headlined the Coca-Cola sponsored FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour at Earls Court 2 in London yesterday (March 11). Sporting a funky new hair cut and a sound that just gets better and better, The Enemy were on top form as they powered through a selection of tracks from 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' and 'Music For The People'.

As the FIFA World Cup Trophy stood on display in Earls Court 2 - Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts blasted the venue with their blend of rock 'n' roll tunes that would be well suited on the football terraces of the World Cup. Tom Clarke jokingly asked the crowd if they had seen Wayne Rooney (he had been giving a press conference earlier in the day) saying, "tell him he needs a shave!"

During the set Tom paid tribute to the striking civil servants, dedicating 'It's Not OK' to them. Other songs included: 40 Days And 40 Nights, Pressure, Away From Here, Be Somebody, Had Enough, Happy Birthday Jane and No Time For Tears.

The Enemy To Play Free World Cup Gig

According to the Press Association, The Enemy will headline a free gig for the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour. The Event will be held on March 11 at London's Earls Court 2 with 2,500 competition winners enjoying the free performance.

England striker Wayne Rooney will be at the event, showing off the 18-carat gold World Cup trophy.

Frontman Tom Clarke said: "We're really looking forward to it - it's a bit different from your usual gig and it's not every day you get the chance to get up close to the FIFA World Cup Trophy."

On Thursday April 1st ChildLine Rocks returns with an incredible one off line up of The Enemy, Carl Barat and Reverend and the Makers playing live to raise money for ChildLine on behalf of ChildLine Rocks.

Tom Clarke In Charity Car Race

Tom Clarke will be in Milton Keynes next Saturday (February 27) car racing for chairty as the Milton Keynes Today newspaper reports:

Fancy rubbing shoulders with Boyzone's Shane Lynch, getting close to karting action AND supporting a charity at the same time?

Milton Keynes has been selected for the first Race for Heroes and you can be a part of the day.

Stars from British motorsport will gather at the Daytona centre on Dansteed Way next Saturday, February 27, to raise money and awareness for the Help For Heroes charity.

They will be joined by Boyzone's Shane Lynch, Tom Clarke from The Enemy, the lads from TV's Dirty Sanchez and a soldiers team fronted by George Cross and Pride of Britain winner Matt Croucher.

Taking on all of these will be a team of top Girl racers, compromising 2009 Ginetta Junior Champion Sarah Moore, 2009 Formula Renault Star Alice Powell, Dunlop Sport Maxx class B Champion Abbie Eaton, VW cup driver Anna Walewska and top karter Sophie Fisher.

As well as the fast-paced action there will be other entertainment during the six-hour endurance race, prize giving, auction and dinner.

Just 300 general public tickets will be available for sale at £30 each.

The all-day event opens to the public at 10am; parking on site is extremely limited and will have to be reserved in advance on a first come first served basis.

There will be other parking available nearby for people who can't be accommodated at Daytona itself.

Tom Clarke told XFM, "I came down here to go all out for Florence, because she owned 2009. But I think the right decision was probably reached. It's not the obvious one.

That was the bit that swung it for me, the moment that John Leckie mentioned the record had soul. Because most people in the room and most people that buy music would want their record to be real. Florence is amazing and has had so many big tunes this year, but she'll probably win absolutely everything else anyway."

Old School Enemy Planned

The BBC have reported The Enemy are taking time out, but for fans of the Coventry band the news is still good. While the lads enjoy their first break in years, they will be returning with 'old school' tunes that made The Enemy famous.

The Enemy's lead singer Tom Clarke has said the band are taking some time off from recording and touring.

The Coventry band released their second album Music For The People last year but are taking a break for the first time since their releasing their debut LP in July 2007.

Speaking to Newsbeat he said: "We're just taking it easy, taking our time. I've bought this ridiculous farm and I'm trying to decorate it so I can move in."

But he's still writing new material: "We've not got a tour for a few months and you go, 'Oh, I'll put my feet up'. But instead of that you get home and you write more songs than you've ever written in your life."

He added: "We're being a bit prolific at the moment but there's a lot of really exciting stuff happening.

"We're going back to rehearsing how we used to because we can't not rehearse, we'd miss it too much.

"A lot of the tunes we're writing are pretty old-school Enemy and it's pretty exciting."

Tom Clarke Discusses XFM New Music Award Nominations

The shortlist for the Xfm New Music Award was announced on January 18 and Tom Clarke of 2008 winners The Enemy - who is one of this year's celebrity judges - came to Xfm to discuss the nominees.

Speaking to Xfm London's Dave Berry, Clarke gave a thumbs up to Band Of Skulls, who were nominated for their album 'Baby Darling Doll Face Honey', saying they were "Mint - They're White Stripes meets Franz Ferdinand. While I don't particularly like Franz, The White Stripes are one of the best bands ever. I can't wait to see Band Of Skulls live."

He also gave backing to Florence And The Machine, claiming: "I love Florence, quite literally, Everything's a tune, everything's been amazing, they've not slipped up once."

However, Clarke was less than enthusiastic for Mumford And Sons' 'Sigh No More', saying the folk-rockers were a "poor man's Elbow. Is there room in the world for Mumford, when you've got Elbow? The vibe is pretty similar."

British Indie Music Dead?

A gloomy short-term forecast ahead then after a challenging year for British indie guitar music, reports the BBC Newsbeat website.

Kaiser Chiefs admitted after their final gig of the year, "I think all the bands that were all our period of bands need to take a little break," said drummer Nick Hodgson to NME. "All the kids can come around to us again."

That's exactly what Coventry band The Enemy are planning on doing.

They released their second album Music For The People last year. After an initial charting at number two their presence in the charts dried up with sales not replicating that of their debut two years before.

"Anyone in guitar bands has to accept that last year was tough," says lead singer Tom Clarke. "You look at the charts and there just isn't the plethora of guitar bands that should be there.

"The cycle is there to weed out the rubbish bands. Last year the weak were weeded out."

Kasabian were one of a handful of British guitar bands to buck that trend and have an enduring commercial hit.

"Whilst radio stations were chickening out of playing guitar music - Kasabian just came out and said, 'Hang on a sec, guitar is great and always will be and here's a record to prove it'," says Clarke.

"Picking when you release a record is key to how the record does - we were really lucky that the timing on the first record was beautiful.

"The timing on the second record, I think we just got it in there before guitar music died a death in 2009.

"As with the Kaiser Chiefs and as with a lot of guitar bands, we'll sit out releasing a record until the time is right again."

Tom Clarke is certainly keeping himself busy as it has been announced he has become a judge on the XFM panel to decide which artist will win the XFM New Music Award this year. The Enemy and Glasvegas have previously won the award.

Happy New Year

Another year over and what a year it's been for The Enemy, Coventry's finest export since The Specials. They started the year with some secret pub gigs around the country, returning to small upfront and personal performances - and all of them were for free, as a thank you to fans.

Then the Coventry trio embarked on a massive UK tour with their new single 'No Time For Tears', becoming their fastest selling to date and featuring the stunning backing vocals of Emma Skipp. The press went into overload as they reviewed the much anticipated second album, 'Music For The People'. It entered the UK charts at #2, just 7,000 copies behind the legendary Bob Dylan.

The Enemy continued to have a busy 2009 with various festivals back in Japan and Europe along with T4 on the Beach, iTunes and the BBC Big Weekend. Tom, Liam and Andy spent the summer touring with Oasis and all the rock 'n' roll headlines that followed. Tom Clarke and Tom Boddy then travelled across America in a Jaguar for the Gumball Rally.

Two more singles from 'Music For The People' were released - 'Sing When You're In Love', with a video featuring lots of scooters and a 60's vibe. 'Be Somebody' featured on Fifa 10 in a new kind of marketing to promote The Enemy. The lads then finally began their first break in three years as Tom Clarke got busy down on his farm, Liam relaxing more at home in Coventry and Andy living life to the full as always.

Yet 2010 will by no means see the end of The Enemy, having performed for the Hogmany celebrations in Edinburgh for New Year, the lads have much more ahead of them. The third album will hopefully see a return to the tunes we all love - gritty lyrics about everyday life. The music industry can be a fickle business, but if The Enemy stay focused they will continue to entertain their fans.

Edinburgh Hogmanay Set To Rock New Year With The Enemy

The Enemy will be celebrating New Year in style as they perform in front around 80,000 revellers in Edinburgh. The annual hogmanay celebrations will go ahead tonight despite Inverness having to cancel their celebrations due to appalling weather conditions. Edinburgh is expected to be a chilly -2C but that won't stop the party or the impressive firework display as the clock strikes twelve.

Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts will rock the New Year in with hits from their We'll Live And Die In The Towns and Music For The People albums and fans will be able to watch the performance because BBC Scotland's annual Hogmanay Live show is being streamed live on the internet . The programme runs from 2345 GMT to 0045 GMT on BBC One Scotland.

BBC Alba's Bliadhna Mhath Ur, which is being screened between 2330 GMT and 0100 GMT, is also being streamed live on the same website.

Tom Clarke Kept Busy With Farm

THE ENEMY frontman TOM CLARKE is dog tired, reports The Sun - not from too much rock 'n' roll partying but from working on his farm.
The singer, who treated himself to a plot in the Midlands a few months ago, is finding it more work than play.

Tom said: "I've bought a farm and have been renovating it while the band have been on wind-down. But it's so much work! Honestly, I'm having second thoughts now.

"I bought it then realised I'd bitten off more than I can chew.

"It needs loads and loads of work, it's taking up all my time."

Tom admits: "I haven't got any animals yet. I don't really know anything about animals, having grown up in the city. I'm just trying to grow grass at the moment.

"I don't know if I can be responsible to look after animals.

"Pigs smell of their own s***. I reckon cows are going to get trendy soon so I might get some of them - Highland cows, the ones which look like sofas."

Quick tip, Tom: Sitting on Highland cattle is not advisable, especially on the end with the horns.

The Sun report that THE ENEMY frontman TOM CLARKE can't keep away from bandmate ANDY HOPKINS - even at Christmas.
The duo are hooking up for a big day bender in home town Coventry.

Tom said: "Me and Andy meet up in the local at midday, it's tradition. Have a few beers, then I'm going to watch Top Gear at my mum's.

"It's the first time the band have had off in four years so I'm going to enjoy it."

Remaining bandmate, drummer LIAM WATTS, won't be joining in. Tom said: "Liam used to be a madhead, on the KEITH MOON track.

"He won't come to the pub. He's practically married now. I don't want to call him boring but he's very settled."

Emma Skipp provided the unforgettable backing vocals on The Enemy's 'No Time For Tears' and became known as the woman with the red hair and red dress as she was seen by thousands of fans during the 2009 gigs. We have good news for all those who loved Emma's voice (and her on stage performances!) - she has a string of acoustic performances lined up.

We have not one, but SIX chances to hear Emma Skipp perform over the coming weeks as she teams up with Mark Webb on guitar for several of the gigs. The charasmatic singer will also be taking part in a Christmas sing-a-long in Birmingham on Friday 18th December 2009.

The Enemy Win Over Birmingham Audience

Here is a review by James Watkins for the Shropshire Star from their recent gig at Birmingham's O2 Academy.

Indie/punk rockers The Enemy, returned to Birmingham for the third time this year on their latest stop from the Music For The People tour.

Coventry’s finest had previously played the old Academy in Dale End on two sold out dates back in April, but returned to raise the roof on the shiny new Academy in Bristol Street.

Opening with Aggro and Had Enough, frontman Tom Clarke lifted the predominantly young crowd into a mass of moshing and crowd-surfing that only the Enemy seem to capable of inspiring.

Whether it was the thought of playing a home soil gig or the realisation that the fans were in a boundlessly energetic mood, the Enemy produced a classic set list that endeared them to the partisan crowd.

Playing all their hits including Away From Here and This Song Is About You, the crowd were lifted into full song throughout the night.

Offering a much more punky sound with It’s Not OK and Elephant Song, Clarke and co. descended into a rip-snorting cover of the Jam’s classic song In The City.

After an hour of showcasing their ability to thrash out tunes ten times harder than on record, Happy Birthday Jane and Not Alone ended the set to audacious applause. No doubt the Enemy will be back with a third album next year and another sold out date in the Midlands.
